18 Acres of Open Space to Weave Brightwater Community Together

Mississauga’s Port Credit waterfront is about to be extended westwards as 72 acres of cleaned up brownfields are primed to become a mixed-use community, Brightwater. Developed by Port Credit West Village Partners—a joint venture of DiamondCorp, Dream Unlimited, FRAM + Slokker, and the Kilmer Group—will remake the former Imperial Oil Lands at Lakeshore Road West and Mississauga Road with over 2,500 condominium units and over 400 townhomes, in a master plan by Giannone Petricone Associates and Urban Strategies

The community’s residential foothold is being established by an initial pair of condominium buildings that will form a gateway into the site at its north end. The Diamond Schmitt Architects-designed buildings include Brightwater I, a boutique five-storey, mixed-use building, and Brightwater II, a 14-storey mixed-use building. Their respective 76 and 235 condominium suites start from the low $400,000s.

As marketing continues, more details about the community plans are being released. Weaving together the first phase with the next buildings expected to hit the market, Brightwater will be home to five public parks and a total of 18 acres of open spaces, all interconnected by tree-lined boulevards.

Heavily featured in the community’s marketing material is a central public space known as Village Square, planned among the initial phases of development. Depictions include summer and winter variations. Below, the summer rendering shows restaurant patio seating animating the public realm with urban amenities that will define the community’s street frontages.

During colder months, festive holiday displays will add colourful appeal to the square, while pop-up market kiosks are shown offering hot drinks, helping to create a festive outdoor destination regardless of the season.

Another example of interaction between buildings and public spaces is the planned resident amenity spaces at Brightwater II, which are concentrated in podium levels behind walls of clear glazing overlooking public space, creating visual connections.

While details are still emerging about public spaces planned within future phases to the south, preliminary information has been revealed for one of the community’s waterfront parks: Brightwater is envisioned with a community centre that would include a large beach club with easy access to the shore of Lake Ontario, as well as features like an outdoor pool.
